Class 3: Framed Images

On Saturday, Nov 21st, guest instructor Aries Santiago showed a short film he wrote, directed and acted in. He was incredibly inspiring. He also talked a bit about goal setting and passed out worksheets that we can use to think about our daily and life goals.

We unveiled the new camera equipment! The students practiced composition and camera movements! It was great to see them working with the new equipment. I am sure that they are going to be inspired by their experience making films!

Later that night some of us watched KIDS directed by Larry Clark. It was my all time favorite movie 14 years ago when it came out. I liked it because it was the grittiest and most realistic film I had seen at the time. And it was about topics relevant to me. Watching it on Saturday, I couldn’t believe how racy it feels 14 years later.

Despite the saturation of reality TV, the film seemed to have an impact on the students. They commented about ideas of a script vs. improvisation. Some of them told me that they were going to have nightmares now… oops:/
